What is Twitter?
February 1, 2009 – 10:22 amTwitter is a website which allows users to post updates on their site, much like a blog. The difference from Twitter and blogs, however, is that Twitter only allows you to post short messages (140 characters to be precise). It allows you to keep in touch easily with family and friends, or to get your message across. Because of this, Twitter has become an extremely popular tool with webmasters to advertise their website.
Obviously, the most important part of Twitter is getting people to view the messages you say, whether you’re just telling your mum what you did at the weekend or promoting your new site, if no one sees the comments, whats the point?!
The easiest way to get people to view your comments is to get followers. This is extremely similar to the RSS feeds you see in blogs, basically sending your latest message straight to your followers so that they can keep up with your posts. A great way of getting followers is to follow other people and hope they follow you in return, although this doesn’t always work and takes a fair amount of time!
